We went to see the All Blacks play Ireland with our friends in New Plymouth last weekend. I couldn't get our video of the Haka to upload, but someone else thoughtfully posted their version on youtube for me. We got to stay with our friends from residency, Will & Rachel, and their adorable 2-year-old, Carina. They live ON the beach in New Plymouth -- It's like vacation every day!! Will's brother was also visiting, so he came to the game with us.
We thankfully had great weather -- cool but not too cold, and it didn't rain!! Wooo!! It was a bit of a blow-out, as you can see here. The Irish didn't even score until the first half was nearly over -- by the time they finally did score, everyone cheered. You couldn't help but cheer for them! Patrick definitely has a good handle on rugby now, so it's fun to watch -- He can keep me informed as to the rules and penalties when I ask. And I at least know enough to ask!
There was a lively group of fans behind us who clearly hail from Ireland but are living in New Zealand. They cheered for both teams passionately -- It seemed like if the All Blacks were playing anyone but Ireland they'd be cheering for them exclusively. They hooted and hollered through the whole game -- At one point an Irish player was led off of the field with what looked to the 2 ER docs in the crowd to be a broken elbow, and they all yelled, "YOU'RE WEAK!!" I have some nice video of their songs and cheering, but they are not exactly G-Rated...Pretty sure they're not appropriate for the family blog!! (Then again, it's not like Grammy hasn't heard intoxicated Irish men singing before...right?)
