The Garden

Spring is finally here ... sort of. It has been so rainy here lately, but you know what they say, "May showers bring July tomatoes!" Right?? After our double winter in each hemisphere, we are ready for summer! And with summer comes our fabulous veggie garden. Patrick tilled it up so it was all ready for some cold winter stuff back in April.
We planted rows of lettuce, spinach, arugula and broccoli. They are so neat and evenly spaced. this won't last long, by the end of summer this space sort of looks like a jungle.

A couple of weekends ago we planted our tomatoes. We went to the local nursery and had a big time deciding which ones to pick out. We got a couple of heirlooms, but then the rest hybrids and cherries because the heirlooms take FOREVER to grow tomatoes. Again, so nice and neat -- I will post a picture when it becomes a jungle later in the summer. Patrick is a very good weeder and takes good care of everything, but once the plants get big it's just very leafy.

We also put in 1 eggplant (which we've never grown before), a butternut squash (another new one), basil, cilantro, and some zucchini, squash and cucumbers. We're a veritable cornucopia of produce.

The birds like to eat our lettuce, so Mcgeyver figured out a new use for these old window screens. Stay classy!
