Best Abel Tasman Day Trip. Ever.

And here you are...in no particular order, shots from what is called on the website "The Best Abel Tasman Day Trip." Ever. Abel Tasman National Park is situated on the Northwestern part of the South Island, easily accessible from Nelson. There is a track along the coastline for you to spend several days hiking or kayaking along the coast, sleeping in campsites or DOC huts. We only had a day, so we figured we'd do a tour. And it was fantastic! The tour maxes out at 9 people, there were 6 of us and 1 other family of 3, so it was like our own personal tour. The tour takes you along the coast, cathing all of the rock formations and sights of the coastline, hitting a few of the little islands - we even got to see a seal colony. Besides all of that, there was kayaking, swimming, hiking, and of course, eating! We stopped in a quite cove to play in the water...the skipper gave us some bread to feed the fishies...So we figured, why not swim with the fishies? And, while we're at it, why not jump from the top of the boat into the ocean?

Sort of like your own, personal, ocean high-dive.

With all of the swimming, kayaking, hiking, etc...we were hungry! Good thing they had a few snacks for us...

A cool shot of the bay - That's our boat parked off in the distance, with our kayaks on shore.

Here's the whole group in the water, ready to kayak. We're soooo hard-core.

Plenty of time for relaxing, too. We're not really "Boat People," but, a girl could get used to this!

Since we were all up for a hike, they dropped us off in one bay, we hiked up along the coastline taking in these views for about an hour...and he picked us up in the next bay!

Here is the whole gang on our hike. Abel Tasman was a big hit, all around.

  1. That looks really fun. You know, the way something can look so fun that it makes you a little sad inside. It looks that fun.
