Here is a nice picture of the coast along Kai Iwi Beach, just outside of Wanganui. "Iwi" is the Maori word for tribe, so this beach is the Kai Tribe Beach. It's a beautiful long stretch of black sand, as are most beaches in this area, a result of emerging from volcanic eruptions. Last weekend we walked along here for about an hour Sunday afternoon. There's also a fantastic park near the parking area, and we stopped to play there, too!
