Nau mai! Welcome to New Zealand!

Welcome to Auckland! We arrived around 5:30 am local time on Friday...because we crossed the international dateline, we had no Thursday.

Mmmm...Patrick is enjoying his first Flat White, a delicious espresso drink with "textured milk." We are not really sure what "textured milk" is or how you make it textured, but it is delicious! (Thanks for the tip, Marshall!) We're in a place called Esquire's, which seems to be a Kiwi equivalent to Starbuck's. (Note, picture of the esquire in Esquire's...ha)

Approximately 20 minutes after her first Flat White, Molly was feeling a little exuberant...or was it jittery? (Did I mention that's two espresso shots in the Flat white?) Pictured here on Prince's Warf.
It's an interesting place, New Zealand. For those of you who have been to any of these places, it's a little like this: The cafes and bars with more outside than inside seating that are packed most of the day remind me of Europe. Driving along the highway with ridiculously lush vegetation to your left and huge shipping containers and cranes to your right in the water remind me of Panama. Meanwhile the delicious Japanese food we had for dinner Friday night is one restaurant amidst hundreds of delicious looking spots for varying international cuisine. Then when the locals start to talk...you know you're in New Zealand. It's a small world after all...

Ahhhh...our own personal happy hour, drinks at the top of the Sky Tower ("the Spire") while taking in the sunset over the ocean. Enough said.

A parting shot from the top of the Spire. More pictures and thoughts later...coming soon, our enormous house in Wanganui, complete with lemon tree in the back yard.
